The Gospel of Mark: Following the Real Jesus

Sometimes we come to Jesus thinking we see clearly, but like Peter in this passage, we often only see part of the picture. When Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?” Peter gets the right answer—“You are the Christ.” But he still doesn’t fully understand what that means. He’s holding onto his own ideas of who Jesus should be, and it leads him to push back against Jesus’ plan to suffer and be killed. We can do the same. We can hold on to our own ideas, our preconceived notions about Jesus. But following Jesus means laying all of that down - laying down our very life! As we surrender and trust Jesus, one obedient step at a time, we get a greater revelation of who He is, and we experience true life in Him.
