It’s so easy to settle for religion instead of relationship—and when we do, it kills our faith. Jesus confronts the Pharisees because they elevated man-made rules above God’s Word, putting tradition and personal preference in the place of true obedience. The same thing can happen today—when we focus more on outward appearances than inward devotion, or when we blame the world around us instead of looking at the sin within our own hearts. At the end of the day, Jesus is after our hearts, not empty actions. Real, living faith grows when we stop trying to prove ourselves and humbly turn to Him.
